In the present...
The Missing Planes is a feral band. They have extra large incisors. They play rock and roll music the way one would track, kill, and eat a four-legged beast. They do not feel the need to accessorize or drink lattes. When Michele and Matt pass you on the street, they will look away, even if youre their mom because they are so through with you and your bullshit.
Michele Buono barely peeks out from behind a wall of hair, dwarfed by the Marshall behind her. With the concrete guitar attached, she may just sink like a stone. This is hardly a rock star. But two songs in bolstered by a few swigs of iced tea and power chords summoned from the bowel-rattling depths of a clandestine defense department laboratory she assumes the position of ELECTRIC WARRIOR. SG as phallus; more venus flytrap than shrinking violet. Duck and cover, motherfucker.
From behind a barrier of plywood and metal, Matt Barber appears ready to whoop you. I believe he would if his steel-toed boots werent Chuck Taylors with a nervous twitch; if he wasnt preparing for THE LAST SHOW HELL EVER PLAY. It might not be tonight, but so what. Hammering like baby-shaved Bonham, Barber is part of the glue that you dont sniffthe part that actually holds shit together.
Yeah, they opened shows for ICONS (Jason Loewenstein, Calvin Johnson), but I get the feeling that its the little shows they cherish. The shows where they blow the roof from above their friends, leaving soaking wet or chafed raw, whichever you prefer. Unlike other bands of their genre, they do not charge money to suppress ennui, make a statement, or sell their product. What use would you have for a powder blue t-shirt with a 1970s style sit-com logo after youve been torn limb from limb?
This is a dot-com, comb-over, over-fed police state and The Missing Planes are having none of it. Will Michele and Matt be around tomorrow? Probably. But today means a lot more. The wooly mammoth is extinct, and The Missing Planes is alive.

In the past...
What has become The Missing Planes began in a small, steamy back room in a west side apartment in July 2002. The music from those sessions came out of a desire to keep playing after the end of a Georgia Tucker, a band Matt and Michele were in with Tommy Stanford and Joel Menter of Dai Atlas.
Those early days confined them by space and volume. Space wasnt the real issue, though, as they found a new sense of energy when they moved into a real practice space and didnt have to worry about bothering the neighbors with the racket! Aside from Georgia Tucker, Michele also played in Morning and Penetrating Green.
Copies of Georgia Tucker's "For Lack of Humor" EP (2001) and Morning's "Grapefruit Squirt" CD (1998) are still available in the "cheap is good, free is best" category! If interested in our history, contact us at info@themissingplanes.com
